Announcing Mothers' Union Website for the Diocese in Europe


Mrs Barbara Woods, the Mothers' Union Diocesan President of the Diocese in Europe, has announced the launch of a new website for the Mothers’ Union in the diocese.  It is intended both to raise the awareness of the work and witness of the Mothers’ Union worldwide and to reflect the development of the MU within our own diocese.  New pages about the branches will be added as they appear, containing news and photographs.     I've just visited the website only to discover that a large part of the Eastern Archdeaconry of our Diocese has been deemed to be no longer part of it as far as the Mothers' Union is concerned! Will someone kindly inform the creator of the logo that Turkey, the whole of the former Soviet Union in Asia, along with Mongolia, are part of our Diocese. Additionally, Morocco in North Africa has also been excluded.

The Church of the Resurrection, Pera, Istanbul is inaugurated

In a joyous celebration on Sunday 25 April, over 90 persons gathered for the inauguration of the Church of the Resurrection, Pera, in Istanbul. This church formed from the growing together of two Turkish speaking congregations, one already part of the diocese in Europe, and another coming from an independent protestant tradition. Following a period of several months of mutual discernment the Church of the Resurrection held their first Annual General Meeting on Sunday 18th April and a Church Council and churchwardens elected. The Revd Engin Yildirim, already a priest of this diocese, is now the priest-in-charge of the Church of the Resurrection, Pera. Turkish-speaking Christians are a small minority in the country and many groups have tended to split apart from one another. The union of two congregations is therefore significant and marks a maturing in the life of the indigenous Turkish Church. All are welcome in the Diocese in Europe

Photo: Canterbury Cathedral The communiqué and reports from the Primates’ Meeting held in Canterbury last week have been received across the Anglican world in different ways. Some are relieved that there has been no “fundamental departure from the faith and teaching held by the majority of our Provinces on the doctrine of marriage”. Others are deeply disappointed and many, including members of the LGBT community in the Church, are deeply hurt that the Episcopal Church USA has been required by the Primates to remove itself from decision making and representative roles in the Communion for three years, as a consequence of its recent change to permit same-sex marriage.
