Was this history being made?

In the evocative chapel at Cardinal Schulte Haus, dedicated to St Edith Stein, a carmelite nun and convert from Judaism who died in a gas chamber at Auschwitz, a service of healing and reconciliation was held on Saturday evening June 16 at the Diocesan Readers' Conference.

Canon Ulla Monberg presided and preached. I am led to believe that this may be the first time that a woman priest has presided at a eucharist at a diocesan event.

  1. I was going to post a different comment, but what's the point - yet? If this really is making history, how far behind have we fallen? Thank God it has at least occurred; and at the hands of a woman with very particular gifts - other than the ministerial authority of every other priest.

  2. For many of us it is felt a good thing that women are priests. But for many thousands who have left the church of England over the issue and others who remain but are unhappy about it, it is a sad day. Not because a woman cannot fulfil the role as well as a man but that scripture says she shouldn't. So though we might applaud this event we must remember that it is an agony to others of our faithful brothers and sisters who see it as a move away from what the bible has taught. D.Phillips

    1. Given that there are two priests named D Phillips in the Diocese in Europe, and many other D Phillips out there, for those who might make assumptions, I do want make clear that this comment is not made by the D Phillips of Palermo.

  3. "There is no longer male or female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus." That is what the Bible taught me and in this service of Healing (I was there) it became and proved itself to be the very truth.
